CD Changer in my Grand Marquis

I bought a nice '98 Grand Marquis a few weeks ago, low mileage and super shape. It has an AM/FM/Cassette deck that has a CD selector and the controls. I am sure it is supposed to be able to interface with a factory CD changer, which the car does not have.

I have pulled the radio unit out to look at it, and there are no empty connectors on the back of it. There are three connectors back there. I have pulled the trunk apart, looking for the end of a cable that I believe should plug right in to a factory CD changer, which I plan to get off Ebay. But I can find no such cable. I've even looked under the back seat.

Does anyone know where that cable might be hidden? Can anyone tell me where the factory CD changer would mount in the trunk on a '98? I'm not getting much help on the sites that specialize in car audio...everyone there seems to be obssessed with earsplitting power and subwoofers that cause earthquakes. I just wanna play a CD in my car now and then, I'm not trying to impose my musical tastes (which are quite sophisticated, if I say so myself) on anyone else!

-dd-

Re: CD Changer in my Grand Marquis

You might be better off installing an aftermarket head unit in the dash that plays single CDs. They are relatively inexpensive, easy to install, and have superior sound and power to the stock unit. Another option is an aftermarkt CD changer that uses an empty radio frequency as the input on the factory head unit. Considering the sketchy quality of the stock systems in Fords, I would not invest any more hard earned loot in the stock system. Good luck...

Okay then...since there are no empty connectors on the back of the AM/FM/Cassette unit (it's the premium system, by the way---and it sounds plenty good enough to keep), I would think tnat somewhere in the vehicle, there's a bundled up set of wires with the connector on the end that I will need to route into the trunk. Is that correct?

Thanks for your help, fseries!

-dd-
