I have a 1968 Johnson 100 HP with CD ignition and just bought a maintenance free battery a week ago.
I've found warnings saying you should not use a maintenance free or low maintenance battery with this ignition system because overcharging can damage the power pulse..
"DUE TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE BATTERIES, DO NOT USE AUTOMOTIVE, MAINTAINENCE FREE OR LOW
MAINTAINENCE BATTERIES FOR THIS APPLICATION! OVERCHARGING CAN CAUSE SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE IGNITION
MODULE"
I'm not sure what overcharging has to do with the battery type.. wouldn't all boat batteries get overcharged since the stater/etc doesn't just stop when the battery is full?
Please shed some light on this.. thanks
