Took the existing CDI coil off my evinrude. Has primary lead from pulse pack and secondary lead going to distributor. My ohms reading on this one was HIGH on the primary lead to ground. On the secondary lead( to distributor) to ground read low. Checking continuity between two leads on this one shows high resistance.
On brand new replacement coil my readings are as follows. Primary lead to ground shows low, the secondary lead to ground shows low also. checking continuity between two leads on this one shows low resistance.
7 out of 8 boat places told me that both of these coils are bad. They told me that the primary lead should show low and with my meter might show as zero, but actually has some resistance, and my secondary or high tension lead should show high. I have uploaded a video on youtube showing my tests on each of these coils.
