Anyone bought any std OMC CDI (183-4477) coils lately? Where are they made? I bought a Sierra coil last year and it was from China...Not the best fit I had to cut back the plastic case to make it fit...

also Prufrex (German) coils -- think those are through NAPA, but not sure (NAPA sells Sierra parts). I'm not sure where the others are manufactured, but have used them all and really have had no issues or failures (last about a year ago, and believe those were Prufrex coils.)

I just installed new powerpacks, coils, and plug wires. All were CDI, and the boxes had "assembled in the USA" stickers on them. Their website says all parts are designed and manufactured in Huntsville, AL.

The give away statement .....made somewhere else and assembled at location. Assembled could mean just putting in a cardboard box. When Ray owned the location(Rapair) all items was made /tested on site by disabled employees.Used to go there a couple months a year to drop off cores.

I am going to guess the BRP coils are made offshore, but hopefully with better QC. last Sierra coil I bought I had to spend several hours modify it to make it fit. Looking a better option. I will try the CDI's. Last power pack I bought from them was Made In Germany and works very well

Agreed. It would definitely be stated that parts are "made in the USA" if they are/were actually made in the USA. I do find it odd though, that their website claims as I stated last night that all parts are designed & manufactured in the USA.

Interesting situation with 2 coils from CDI for a 90hp Johnson, year 2000. Had erratic RPM, installed 2 CDI coils, then lost spark. Kept swapping out ignition components until I was stumped, brought it to a shop and they were stumped, too...until they replaced the new CDI coils with known good coils. Solved the problem. They said the CDI coils were putting out too much voltage to fire. Sent them back and CDI sent me a new set.

Too much voltage to fire ?----That is something new I think.----Some shops come up with wonderful explanations.

I can't speak to their coils, but I have a CDI powerpack on my 9.9 that is working great.
