is there a way to check a cdi box if i take it to a certified yamaha mechanic,this is on a pro v 200

I was told there is no way to bench test one. On the engine there are tests that can pinpoint if it is faulty. I was also told it is very uncommon for them to fail. Explain what type of problem you are having maybe someone can chime in with suggestions.
