We just bought a 1985 36' Regal Commodore that has very smelly and dirty headliner. Is there anything that could be used on the ceiling instead of headliner? I would like to get rid of as much fabric as possible, as I am allergic to mould.

Re: Ceiling

pull the headliner down and see what you have to attach to. all depends on whats behind it, and what it will support. ever consider a vinyl headliner. what ever you do it's going to have to be a custom job.

1. Tear every scrap out!

2. scub it down with bleach (wear respirator)

3. Fill any holes with a sandable felxible putty (caulk)

4.Paint the whole thing with a couple of coats of ZINSER KILZ (a mold preventative) and then finish in one part polyurethane satin finish of your color choice.

Mitro, If the naked ceiling is too ugly, they have all vinyl coverings made for the floor of runabouts. It has that pigskin look to it.

Re: Ceiling

If your handy with wood working tools and fibreglass, then it is real nice to finish off the inside of a hull with wood strips. I finished off the inside of my sailboat several years ago by glassing 3/8 inch thick cedar strips vertically on the hull (like studs in a house) and beam to beam on the under side of the deck (like ceiling joist in a house). then screwed long strips of cedar to the (studs and joists) and varnished them.. looks great after 10 years and no problems... I used cedar cause its light weight...and looks a lot like teak when varnished ....good luck.....

Go for the bling, get some of that Diamond Tuck and go Gansta lean style lol. Or just go with the wood, i dont think your boat would look good with a Chain Steering Wheel and Fuzzy Dice............just a thought.

On a Real note, there is alot of Mold products out there that can go under that headliner and you can be safe and enjoy your headliner.
