Hey all,

This is my first post.
I am new to boats and boating. My family loves to camp and we have a Waverunner. We have been thinking it would be nice to also have a boat so that we can spend time in the lake as a family.

My question is this, I have the opportunity to purchase a 1983 21' celebrity open bow ski boat. Its has a brand new 355 and a merc alpha one drive.

The problem, The engine needs to be installed. He wants 1700.00 for the boat, engine, extra out drive and trailer.

Good deal or no. I am mechanically inclined and have tools, so that shouldt be an issue.
What do you guys think? what should I look for?

Thanks all

Im from Godfrey Illinois, just about half hour from St. Louis.

As far as the asking price I guess I should also include that we will be doing some trading and I will only actually be into this thing for about $1150.00

Thank you for the reply!

From the "if it was me" category - a boat with no motor is worthless unless it's in amazing shape. Even then, it's be hard to convince me that a (nearly) 30 year old boat with no motor is worth more than a couple hundred bucks. The one in the picture has no seats

The engine may be a brand new remanufactured one - see what you think that is worth. If it's not a new engine ... I'd be back in the hundreds of dollars category, not thousands.

Check it against some other purchases on Craigslist out of Grand Rapids, Lansing and Indy. See what you could purchase for about $3K - I would guess that's how much you'll have into this ole' gal before she's floating the way you want her to.

One way or another... you'll be into this for $4000-$5000.

I would spend the $5000 on a water ready boat that someone has $7000 invested in :) Should be lots of 18'-21' runabouts in that category.

Well,
Against the advice of those that replied.. I went ahead and got this boat. I sold my cobra when my son was born, so I need a new project anyway.

The Engine looks good. I pulled one of the main and Rod caps and the bearings are new. I used a Boroscope to check in the cylinders and they look good aswell. The floor and transom are solid, so I said what the hell and got it. Hopefully I can get it together for next summer.

I am sure I will be needing lots of help. First off, Where can I find a repair manual for this boat. Its an 83 Celebrity 210V BR
Thanks all

You won't find one for the boat, try to find one for the engine/drive. Post up in the I/O forum for that.

If the motor really is new and boat is solid, you got a nice deal. Good luck with it.
