Hello all. This is my first post and I am new to the boating community. I recently purchased a new home and along with the house, the owner left behind a Celebrity Calais Cuddy. It was his sons boat and he has very little info to pass along. The boat looks to be in good shape, but the motor looks a little rough. According to the owner, the mercury v6 ran but had drive issues. The last registration on the boat is from 2004. It looks to be about 20'-22' long and 1980?-1988? vintage. I say this because it has a classic beige, brown, and orange paint scheme. What I am asking is if anyone out there knows where on the boat is a manufacture tag with all pertinent info. I looked everywhere and cant find one let alone know if it ever came with one. On the right stern there is what I presume to be a hull ID number in the fiberglass. Is there also any way to search the boat specs using this number? I would like to know the year, length, weight and any other info I would need to try and get her running. I would supply some pics but we're getting hammered right now with about 12" of snow and counting. It probably wont be for another couple of weeks before I can get to her. This is going to be quite a project but hopefully it wont drain me and without any paperwork, wont be impossible to register. Thanks for letting me in to your community, Ron.

Before you waste any time or money on the boat you need to get the paperwork. At least get a bill of sale.

I'd hate to see you invest a lot of time and/or money getting the boat running only to have problems getting it registered.

You may find a manufacturer's ID plate up near the helm (steering wheel). Look all around on the hull there.

As someone said, don't spend any money until you have the title for the boat in your name. Otherwise the previous owner's son may show up for his boat after you've fixed it up. It has happened.

Once you have that, you'll be able to assess whether or not it's worth fixing this boat up. We can help with that.

Re: Celebrity mystery???

Celebrity Boats was purchased by Bombardier in the mid 1990's, then went out of production in the early 2000's. They made a nice boat, in my opinion. I had a 180cx bowrider for a few years, and it performed well.

You should be able to find parts and mechanics that can work on this boat. They used Mercruiser a lot.

The Hull ID number should tell you the year the boat was manufactured - the last 2 digits are the year.

Google "Celebrity Boats Calais Specifications" and you should come across a few websites that have some information. Additionally, try http://internetarchive.org, and type in celebrityboats.com.

Re: Celebrity mystery???

Thanks to all for the quick replies and sound advice. I guess I will contact my attorney first to see what she could do as the boat abandonment was an issue that arose at closing. I will update as this saga unfolds, stay tuned. Regards to all, Ron.
