Recently purchased a 2002 pontoon boat and the center console is pretty ugly due to sitting in the sun. Question is how do fix this? Do I just sand it and repaint it?

Strip off all the upholstery, hardware, gauges, sand it with 80-120 grit, do any repairs with a simple product like MarineTex, smooth it all out, then you can either gelcoat it, AwlGrip paint it, or if you can easily paint it with oil based tractor paint as per the tutorial by Woodonglass located here: http://forums.iboats.com/foru...-w-pics/page16 (scroll down to post 238 if it doesn't do it for you)

Surely folks with a wealth of knowledge will follow up with more info. Personally I'd do the AwlGrip paint. On my project, I'm prepping to use the above tractor paint setup for my lower hull and I'll be spraying out the AwlGrip paint for my top cap/interior.

Thank you kcon for the link. Very good tutorial. Hopefully others will chime in with their suggestions as well.

is the top cap fiberglass or plastic.

if it is plastic, you have a bit more prep than that, part of which consists of finding an adhesion promoter that works with plastic.

Yeah the tractor Paint with hardener should work fine for that Helm Cap. Just make sure to sand well with 80 grit to remove any loose paint and then wipe well with Acetone. Prime and Paint. Should be a One Day Job
