Here's the deal, the gas hot air upflow furnace worked all winter, no problem. The AC "A" frame sets on top of the furnace. When I turned it to AC yesterday the compressor stated instantly, the fan came on but there was little or no air flow from the air registers. The outflow ducts were cold and wet with condensation, as were the freon lines, even the insulated one. I opened the filter squirrel cage blower access and noted that the filter was clean but the air flow was going in the reverse direction, it was actually sucking it from the output plenum. Humm, now what would cause the fan to run in the reverse direction in AC mode but not heat mode, good question, I assume the starting cap, but before I tear it apart and replace the $30 part I thought someone here would have some thoughts. Any ideas?? Thanks, Ken

Re: Central AC Question/Problem

Does it do it every time it starts? If it does the first thing to check is the capacitors. Without the schematic, it is hard to tell exactly what you have. Some have variable speeds for different stages. Can you start the blower manually? If so does it do it then?

My bet is the blower motor itself or it could be the caps. I'm sure more will chime in here with their opinions. Good Luck SS!
