Not sure what this is - I'll try to grab a pic in a bit, but does anyone know what this could be? Its like a small metal chain with what appears to be a weight dangling off it, starboard side, about halfway down the block?

Looks like a cap for an engine flush that must have fell down there.

Hard to tell. That is your oil pressure gauge sending unit right above it. Is the chain attached to it somehow?

I am inclined to think the post prior to my last is correct. Looks like the cap on a chain feell into your bilge and wrapped it self around the oil pressure sensor. Looks nothing like any of the caps on my 5.7GSI

I can't tell. I'll reach in there and give it a yank to see if it comes off. I thought it might be some kind of weird tipover switch or something I'd never seen before so I didn't want to take it off just yet.

But if its just a fallen cap from the PO, I'll get it out of there tonight.

Just curious about what model engine this is on. My oil pressure gauge sending unit is mounted directly behind the throttle body injection unit and the distributor on the top side of the engine. I have a 99 5.7 GSi.

It's a 3.0l Penta. Not sure on motor year

Think he got it right, looks like a cap for a hose(garden hose) Is it attached or just hung up on some thing?
