I've got a 1975 12' Mirrocraft with the factory green paint. It's been upside down and outside for years and the paint is badly chalked. What's the best compound/procdeure for restoring this finish?

I found a compound that worked really great on a boat that sat for 14 years without a cover. It is made by Meguires. It is called Color Restore. It comes in a blue bottle.

First try using Scotch-Brite pads with liberal amounts of Comet cleanser. Scrub the gelcoat vigorously while keeping the surface wet. You'll be able to remove the oxidation and get down to the good gelcoat.

If this doesn't work, you can wet-sand the boat.

I don't think there is gelcoat on older Mirrocrafts, just paint. I would try what jeffengle said with using the color restore, Meguiars makes some high quality stuff, although it can be costly. I think Comet and scotchbrite pads would strip the paint off.
