looking to have a prop to change on my 80 hp yamaha jet. has anyone done this, my dealer says he has but does not recommend it. went fishing last week and the weeds killed me. was thinking if i had a prop. i could change the prop and the jet. and have the right unit for where ever i fish.

Welcome to Iboats,

Check with Yamaha if they sell a complete 80 HP lower leg to install, that way can swap both to fill your particular boating/fishing needs. A Jet Impeller which equates to a prop for propulsion has nothing to do with a standard prop and will be darn difficult to install and match the internal jet housing configuration, dealer is telling you stories...

thanks, i can drop the Jet in minutes.
several things to hookup.
the dealer mentioned an extension. i have looked at them. not sure how the shift linkage gets through the extension.
items to look at.
1. extension.
2. shift leaver. not sure how to deal with this on 2 different types of units.
3. exhaust. where's it go?
not sure what else.
don't like dealing with weeds in a jet pump

The dealer is correct if motor came from factory as a jet. Way easier to swap a prop to jet than convert a jet back to prop
