I have a 1986 merc 120 w/ alpha1 and I want a stronger engine. I have an old chevy s-10 89 model out back and was wondering if there was a way to put the 4.3l V6 in the boat? Probably not but thanks for the help

To use a 4.3 engine you would have to change the gear ratio in the sterndrive.

Your easiest bet is to find a 3 liter / 140. It will bolt on in place of the 120 with very few issues. You will notice a good bit of difference between the 120 and the 140.

not to mention the Y pipe exaust that may require a different transom assembly.also need to fabricate new front stringers for the engine mounts
