since im not worried about boat theft and just wanted to get rid of the key and have something different, i would ideally get a push button that is start/stop to avoid having the two switches

No,you would need a push button switch that is Stop/Run/Start.
And I have no idea what that would look like!!!??

Which is why you need an ignition switch that has three positions or a toggle switch and a push button.
If you are not worred about theft, just leave the key in it!

Yes you can in fact do that. Their several switch manufactures that have that type of switch with stackable contact blocks to allow and configuration and many styles of switch for looks , how ever expect to pay from 100.00 to 200.00 for the switch and contact blocks

If you are not worried about theft, leave the key in the ignition. Whomever you sell the boat to down the road will thank you for not screwing up a perfectly good ignition system.

Curious how you plan on turning the ignition power on and off.

As was stated, you would need a toggle for the ignition ON/OFF, and then a push button START. You might be able to find that in a special ignition switch, but pricey. Check out the high dollar race cars...toggle and push button.

My local electronics store had what the mfr called a progressive switch. It functions like a keyed switch, three contacts, one hot, one on, and then one on momentary, but in toggle switch form. I use it on the fly bridge and power it from the keyed switch below. It was only 6-7 $.
