I have a 1988 2155 bayliner 3.0 OMC .What my question is I have bought a 1986 Four Winns with a 305 mercuriser. I want to change out the hole power train. Will the pig plug be a direct fit? Will the cables for the carb. and outdrive. be the same? If I have left anything out please tell me. Thanks

Yes, the round plug (I suspect you meant big instead of pig plug) will fit the V8. You will be needing a new Exhaust Y as well if you are planning on through the drive exhaust. You will also need the proper gear ratio for the drive. It's a lot different than the 3.0, and no just swapping props won't help. If it did, there wouldn't be different gear ratio's.

Ayuh,... If yer talkin' a Pulleys to Prop swap,....

Ya, it'll work with some glass work for motor mounts, 'n stuff...

You'll probably need cables...

Re: change of power train

Shouldn't have to change the gauges, or the control. That all works the same for all the Cobra drives. The only reason to replace the cables is if they didn't reach the new parts.

Im thinking I'll have to change the Tach. gauge because its for a 4 cycl. and the motor is an 8 cycl.

Ayuh,... Most have a switch on the back of the gauge to reset it....

Re: change of power train

Trim gauge will work backwards.

OMC cables (both) mount to the engine differently – might be able to buy adapters.

Will need to change where the throttle cable attaches to the shift control. I think OMC used push to open throttle and MerCruiser uses pull to open throttle.

Need to build new front motor mounts.
