Getting ready to winterize my 15 HP Yamaha four stroke outboard. Question is this,...since it is not fully broke in yet(about four hours run time),should I go ahead and change the engine oil anyway or wait until the ten hour break in is up? Since I have never winterized a four stroke outboard before, can and/or should I use fogging oil just as I would if I were winterizing a two stroke motor? What about lower unit lube change since she's not fully broke in yet? I have enjoyed my Yamaha motor very much,...best motor I have ever owned.

Nah! With 4 hours, I wouldn't worry with an oil change. It'd just be a waste of money, since the engine's not even broken in. Just keep the motor out of the weather during the winter.

When you get the motor to the first mandatory oil change, then change the oil and lower unit grease. I have a new 150 hp Yamaha, and it's @ 20 hrs.

Change the oil before storing. The byproducts from burned fuel is in the oil and doesn't need to sit there all winter. Not like it holds that much. Go ahead and fog to protect the valves and cylinders.

My dealer recommends changing oil anyway, even with low hours on the motor,...he recommends fogging it as well along with lower unit lube change, but with our mild winters, fogging the cylinders may not be necessary. The two biggest things are the oil and filter change and make sure fuel stabilizer is in the fuel.
