for the cost of all that, I would recommend a Delco Voyager distributor over pertronix

however you should only need the igniter module.

whats wrong with your points, if you service them every spring, they last about 15 years prior to replacement.

so file the points, gap them, verify the dwell and set timing........ its a 5 minute job.

how-too in the stickies at top of the forum.

learning about the simplest ignition system in the world is less costly than replacing it.

if the boat sat for 3 years, in addition to servicing the points you also need to start at the tank and go thru every bit of the fuel system and clean it all. Tank, pickup, anti-siphon, fuel filters and carb.

being your boat has points, it should also have the bat-wing exhaust manifolds (aka engine-killers) which you will want to change asap (unless they have already been changed to the upgraded center exit manifolds and elbows.

Yep and don’t forget the ESA module your engine came with will only work with points; if you just install the Pertronix you won’t be able to shift to neutral on the water without wiring up a diode fixes as a work around. Just learn how to maintain points, it’s a reliable system and unlike some aftermarket electronic ignition you can find parts easily in the aftermarket. Those of us of a certain age grew up with points in all our cars at least till the mid 70’s. I did them on Chevys, Fords and VWs.

also I converted from the one piece batwing exhaust to the center exit manifold & elbows and have the part #s needed to make the upgrade. I never had trouble with the batwings over 15 years of use (salt water I went thru 3 sets in that time) but some people did...

I prefer points because I have spares and can swap the Points in a half hr easily but if the diode fix really works I can see people liking it better. Might want to have a spare Petronix module just in case. I grew up with cars with points so I’m used to em. There may be ESA modules that will work with electronic ig call CDI electronics they may know....they make aftermarket units I have one on mine in fact
