Getting ready for another season....sorta......Getting ready for a weeks vacation over in s west Fl coast...I might be selling my boat so I don't want to go overboard but I don't want to run it for a week before I change my engine and out drive oils...also change the water impeller. I have a friend that is a mechanic and over the past couple of years have done these same things with me as assistance and now I want to do it myself. I have the manual and have been reminding myself of the process. As I recall, when we changed the impeller, he pulled the whole out drive off and then separated the lower gear case to change out the water pump.....is that necessary? Can't you just remove the lower gear case with the out drive attached? I have the manual but it really does not specify and shows the removal of the water pump in a general section taking the whole out drive apart. If I do have to take the whole thing off, is there anything else I should do? It is a 2007 boat with very low hours, probably between 200 and 300 hours. Also, the exhaust bellows has come off of the drive unit side which I have wrestled with before....I got it back on but it came off again. If I have to pull off the outdrive, I would like to take another shot at getting it back on. Someone told me about some product, and it seems like it was a merc product but not exactly the intended use, to stick that darn think back on...I lost my previous account and can't re trace those threads. If I end up keeping the boat, what next? Bellows replacement? I may sell the boat and get a express crusier type...then I'll really wear you guys out!

Thanks

ok, here we go....after a little more digging, reading the adult section only, I do not need to remove the whole drive unit if I understand what Don put up (thanks Don). I am going to leave the exhaust bellows reattachement alone for now- if I keep the boat I will probably change them all out. If I sell it, I will advise the new owner but otherwise proceeding with the service!

Good for you, you did what we are always barking about. YOU READ THE FAQ'S! That's a good omen, I hope your work turns out well.

Everoything went pretty well,,,,,was concerned I got the tube hooked up, that is a real mickey mouse set up for getting that part of it together...took it back off to check and then put back together and fired up. A couple of concerns reading the faq's is the particular section of the repair manual were pulled and offered but you really need to read through that entire section. I recall from doing this with my buddy that you needed to put the gear box in forward and you must also remove the speedo connection which are not covered in that section on the faq- might have caused some real problems had I not read through the entire section of the manual Only other issue I have and still concerned is when I pumped up the fluid to the vent, I then filled the resovoir per the manual but it never seemed to drain down so I am concered with that. Will test the boat in the water in a few....thanks all!

water test went fine....checked engine and foot oil (which was a little over filled) and everything was normal, except I left my main power switch on and the batter was dead and had to jump it....my boat is pretty basic, had power on to run the radio and turned the radio off but not the switch...common to run the battery down this way? Nothing else ( have nothing else) was running....anyway, was concerned that the foot oil bottle did not drain down better but I guess all is good!
