I got a new project boat, a 1996 four winns 180 with a volvo 4.3.

I hate inboards anyway, but in the process of going through everything and performing all of the routine maintenance before I start a boat thats been sitting for awhile, i found this!!!!

I have a stack of service records frome the first owner, and i cant believe that noone recommended changing the raw water impeller!

By far the worst impeller ive seen in person, and hope there hasnt been any overheating damage.

I should have taken pics of the two I pulled from a 98 Chap 27. No fins left what so ever. Back flush, back flush, back flush.

Seen that quite a few times, you can suggest changing the impeller as regular maintenance, But they just won't have it done. We even keep a couple like that right on the counter, so they can see what happens, but they wait till it overheats and need a tow........

The impeller was the first bit of maintenance that I did when I bought my used boat. Just gave me piece of mind and a starting point as to when I would need to replace it in the future.
