Changed impeller, now tell tale is weak

Hi everybody,

I have a 1998 Merc 115 2+2 with 1,125 hours on it. It has always run perfectly.

This spring I replaced my water pump impeller as normal maintenance. Everything was fine before the change, but after installing the new impeller I've noticed a few things:

1) The tell tale stream is quite weak at idle. I assumed that something was clogging the line, but I took the hose off and it was clean as a whistle, the little tell tale fitting was clear also.

2) My engine used to get to about 140 degrees at idle and then when I passed about 2000 rpm the temp would drop to 110 degrees (I have a temp gage on the dashboard). Now it idles at 140, but only drops to slightly below 130 after 2K rpm.

3) I remember the tell tale water as always being cold before (I could be wrong about that), now it is warm. Not hot, but warm.

So, my questions are:

Any idea as to what is causing the change ?

and

Are my running temps OK ?

Oh, forgot to mention that I have changed the impeller many times on this engine (I bought it new) and I used an OEM Mercury part, not a knock off.

Thanks !!

I would have to guess so. I would think that the tube either lines up or it doesn't.

I can't imagine that if the tube wasn't connected at all that there would be any water flow.

Check for any blockages in the intakes. If it pumped before and doesn't after you changed it I don't know If I would guess. I would want to double check.
