Greetings. Havn't posted for a while and got the boat out of storage.

I decided to change the lower oil today.

I took out the 3 plugs I had. Vent, Oil level/fill, and drain.

The unit was all the way down and I drained it. Gear oil is nasty stuff and I let it drain for about 20 minutes while I also used my grease gun and got the trailer ready.

After it had drained I put the drain plug in and filled from the oil level plug which is just about 1/2" below the vent plug. I kept going untill a little bit came out of the vent. I then let the vent plug drain out then put the plug in and cleaned it all up. In total I put 3 8oz tubes of 80-90w in.

However I just read on a few writeups after I'm done that I was supposed to fill from the bottom?! Will I be ok? all of the nessisary lube went in.

This is a 1996 Maxum With a Force/Merc 120hp outboard.

Filling from the bottom helps flush the system out. The vent plug helps take care of air in the system. I would drain and refill...

I second that, I would drain and refill. If you fill from the top it is likely you will have a air pocket in it. When it leaves oil level will be low and you will blow up drive....very expensive, the proper refill procedure is a must.
