i have a 16' aluminum deep-v. It had 50hp mariner on it with 15P prop. I traded the 50 for a 75hp. I was going 'start' with a 17p on the 75 and go from there, but the prop selector here http://www.mercurymarine.com/prop_selector says for me to start with a 26P. That seems very tall to me, and quite a change from the 15P that was on the 50. Where would you start? The boat alone is probably weighing between 1200-1500lbs. The 50 would push it about 26mph, and pull my son on a tube around 12mph (he said it was fun, i didnt believe him) anyway, i'll be doing mainly fishin, but the motor will see a fair share of watersports too. Whatcha think? oh and ah, no i dont have a tac yet, the harness has the "grey" wire in it, but i cant locate a model number for a tac that will "plug n play".

Waco, I also think 26P prop is not correct. Additionally, I wonder why your speed drops to 12MPH while pulling the tube. I would not think it would be affected more than 2-3MPH. I would also think a tach would be available for the 75HP motor, and I would try the 15P prop and see how that works. I used a 17P prop on my Merc 85HP OB on a 16' runabout. It was a good match, so I think the 15 P would be close!

I agree, I don't think there are many 75hp applications that would run a 26p prop. I'd bet you'll end up in the 17-20 pitch range.

Waco, Usually the max RPM is tied to the year, model and brand of the motor. In general, most motors fall into the 4500-5500RPM range at WOT. I would recommend you do not exceed 5500RPM until you find out the top RPM specs on your motor.

If you've buying a new 75 Mariner, it'll come with a tacho. And yes, 26 is WAAAAAAAAAAY too big....
