changed rewind coil now not working right!!

i have an 86 mercury 35 hp. i changed the rewind coil.it retracks but rope doesnt go all the way back in.there is still some rope maybe about 8 inches of rope that doesnt go back in.what did i do wrong?

I am suprised that you haven't got a responce on this yet. When you coiled up the return spring you needed one or two more revolutions
you have remove it and bring the rope around the the spool 2 two times and put it back in.
