Can't seem to follow what you are asking. Can you break it down a little better and maybe use a period or two so I can understand. I believe the 1973 doesn't have a telltale for the water pump as an indicator. I think they came out a year or two later. There should be a mist that comes out of the relief holes on the upper end of the midsection. I'm sorry if I can't answer everything but I am really not sure what you are asking.

Weight shouldn't be an issue...won't be much difference.
How big is the boat?

The only difference will be the speed which could be unsafe if you are in a light boat like Tim said.

Re: changeing motors o.b.

Since Starcraft made deep-V hulls from 14' up to 26' we need to know the length and model of the boat to help out.

Check the SC brochures link in my signature for you boat specs, that should help you out.

Welcome to iboats:)

You will need the OMC controls which work for either Johnson or Evinrude. It shouldn't very hard to swap engines and the controls hook up the same way. If you have OMC controls already mounted just swap engines and hook up the controls.
