Does anyone know if i can make a T-50 into a T-60 by changing out the engine control unit assembly or is it more involved?

No and Yes. If it were that simple nobody would buy a 60.

Re: Changing a T-50 to a T-60

Thanks for the reply. I guess I should clarify my question. I live near a river that has a 35 hp limit and not a lot of options to pick from. The majority of boaters here take a 50 hp motor and "detune" it to 35 hp using a restrictor plate, this option is available on the T50. T50 hp motors are used because there is not as big of a gap between HP sizes of the engines. What i want to do is get as much out of my motor as I can for salt water purposes and still be able to detune to 35 HP when needed. I have been told that all i need to do to change a T50 to a T60 is install a new Engine Control Unit Assembly , nothing else due to the fact that the motors are the same displacement wise and in all other areas.
Looking at the drawing supplied on Yamaha's web site, the only difference I noted is the cards. If there is other differences that you know of I would appreciate you letting me know, as I am somewhat shooting in the dark.
The option of buying a new motor is there, but when I use the boat on the river I would have to change the motors, much easier to change the control card.
Thanks; Rick
