1981 galaxy1978 inline 6cly , does the front motor mount have to come completely off to do this task, or can just one end be loosened enough to get the old one off and the new one on

There may or not be a spacer on the port side.If it is a merc would probably have a spacer.

Take off the port 2 bolts and remove the spacer.

If a omc no spacer than you have to remove the port 2 bolts, and lossen the starboard 2 bolts, and have someone with long pipe and piece of wood under the corner of the oil pan leverage the port side as you lossen a little more the starboard bolts till you can slip in the belt around the mount.

Better yet put 2 belts around the mount and tie it latter in case you lose a belt on the water and all you would need is a 1/2 inch flat wrench for leverage on the alternator.

After the belt is around the mount tighten up the starboard bolts reinstall the port side bolts and ya done.

Now you might have to take off the all four bolts if it's real tight in there.
Have someone with a good back and a good pipe with ya.

Good luck.
