Hey ereryone! I have a Johnson outboards now....someday if I ever decided to change it to another outboard make IE Mercury, Honda ETC what do I have to change on my boat? I was told by a dealer I had to change my throttle box and my gauges. I have a 14' Lund 1440 Rebel SS with remote steering....any info would be great!!

Thanks in advance.

Re: Changing Boat Motors

Well, your last post sure went to he!! now didn't it? Yeah, if you don't keep the same brand, you will need new control box, should need new gauges (some may be interchangeable, but I don't know, as my boats don't have gauges) Your steering stuff should all be interchangeable. Depending on what years you go with, you may have to add/subtract parts where it connects to the motor, but that is nothing major. Your fuel line will need a new end, but I would go ahead and replace the whole thing, as opposed to just the end, as they do wear out easily. Some fuel lines don't have removable ends, so the connection on the tank is the same as the connection on the motor, so you may have to put a new connection on the tank as well. Should be a couple of bucks from wallyworld, and screws in with teflon to seal it.

But, I still think you should stick with another OMC:D;)
