How hard is it to change these cables? It wouldn't seem all that difficult but I'd like to know before I pull the boat again. I also need to figure out the length as it isn't marked on the cables. Honda 40 hp, 18' toon side console, Honda controlls.
Should I get Honda parts or a universal. Do these come in pairs or do I buy 2 cables? Throttle / shift? I see one is pretty bad the casing is shot and I see a rusty cable. The other looks good. But I figure I'd change them both.

Re: Changing control cables

Shouldn't be too hard on a Honda, you would have to pull the control box out of the console but that would probably be the hardest part.

To get a length measure in straight lines from the control to the engine so from the control to the floor, from the floor to the back of the boat then up to the engine, add all those up and you have your length and I would round up, a little too long is way better than a little too short.

They would come in singles and I would stick with Honda parts, probably alot higher quality and you won't have to do it again any time soon and do both, again, you don't want to have to change the other one in a month.

I watched a video last night on measuring for these cables and it said for an OB to add 4' to the length for motor movement. Does this sound right? Geesh 4' is half the width of the barge.
