I will be attempting to change the engine oil on my 2007 Johnson 9.9hp 4stroke soon. Model is J10EL4SU. It is recommended to also put on a new gasket for the drain plug/screw. I am having difficulty finding the correct gasket. Can anyone direct me to a part number or where I may find it? Will this be a necessary step or is using the existing gasket ok if in good shape?

It is 5031863 available from any Evinrude dealer, or any number of places online.

You can find your own parts at shop2.evinrude.com and drilling into the pages to locate your engine and part.

Another question. My engine specifications indicate that my engine holds 33 oz. of oil... The oil is sold in 32 oz. bottles. Should I be ok with the 32 oz. or do I need to buy more?

There's two ways to look at this:

Chances are you will never remove 100% of the old oil out of the crankcase.

On the other hand, what if you spill some new oil while refilling the crankcase? Compare the cost of another jug of oil vs replacement cost of your motor...you do the math.
