was thinking about converting my old ez load roller trailer to bunk trailer. I was hoping I could get some advice, I was planning on getting some swivel brackets and adding them where the existing roller brakets are and run double flat 2x6 's from about 2 inches behind transom to as far forward as the roller are. Can I run the bunks in the same area on the bottom of the boat as the rollers are. I will post a pic. Thank you in advance!

Also going to look at new axle as the original has a bent spindle. New trailer was north of $1400. Forgot to mention boat is a 74 starcraft 16 ft ss

Went from a roller on my previous boat to a bunk on my current. Hate the bunk the two times each year I have to use the trailer.

We just ordered a brand new boat. It came with a bunk trailer, no charge. We paid $2100.00 extra to have the dealer convert the bunks to full rollers. The last 2 boats we bought came with bunk trailers, but the dealers would not go thru the extra effort. I tried them first, and then spent the extra $ and my own labor to do the conversion to rollers.

Nuff said about my opinion on bunk trailers...

I go boating to have fun. If launching and retrieving isn't easy peasy, I would stay home.

I launch and retrieve by myself. every weekend. Sometimes more than once. Boat fully loaded.

My last boat a 1750 Fish Hawk had a roller trailer. Slick, easy, even a Beach Ramp that is very shallow (to a point where the truck is backed in to about the cab).

Load Guides would have helped with wind, but I could launch and park the truck in 2-3 minutes.

The New boat, a 20' Hewescraft came with Bunks. Heavier, Bigger, Longer, but with Load Guides. I thought I would need to swap for Rollers. So far not an issue. Back in until the Bunks get wet, pull up a little, unhook and push the boat off. The plastic slides help, but the entire bunk has to be wet.

Even the shallow ramp, I have to get Knee Deep to get to the tongue or climb over the box, but it still loads and unloads within 3 minutes.

That said, I would go right to the transom (where the weight is) Plastic runners are a Must, Once they are set up correctly, keep movement to a minimal. Snug the bunks in place.
