Changing fuel pump

Hey guys I'm haveing a heck of a time installing new fuel pump. Any tips tp make it easier? 4.3 merc alpha 1 mechanical pump.

Clean the pump rod with a spray cleaner on a rag . don't just spray it in the cavity. Get some very stiff grease and apply it to the rod. force the rod up into the engine and it should stay there until you insert the pump and get the bolts in.

Look closely at where the rod run's through the block, on the front of the motor, in line of the rod, there should be a bolt. Take it out, insert a longer bolt, hold up the rod, snug bolt to hold the rod. Install pump, remove longer bolt and and install short bolt back in with some sealer to prevent an oil leak.

Nope. It'll prime itself.
