changing impeller on a 1983 sea king 15?

[Howurd]

I am not able to get the lower unit off to change the impeller. I took off the 4 bolt to split the lower case from the upper. There is only about 1/4" of space between the upper and lower. I did manage to find a allen bolt that holds the upper and lower shift rod together. Even though it was a tight squeeze i managed to disconnect the lower and upper shifter shaft but i still cannot get the lower unit off to change the impeller. Can somebody give me any pointers. Thanks

If it's just hanging there and everythings loose?? A rubber hammer?

I thought about using a rubber hammer but i am afraid not knowing if have everything loose. Again i took the 4 bolts out that connect the upper and lower cases. I then was able to separate the upper and lower shift rod that was connected with an allen head bolt. Is that all i have to do to separate the lower and upper cases. Sorry its just i am fairly mechanically inclined but new to outboards. Thanks
