Re: Changing lower gear oil

Changing the lower unit oil is one of the topics covered in the "Top Secret File" at the beginning of the thread list for this forum: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=299680

The fuel ratio is 50:1 - 87 US Octane to TC-W3 oil.

Here is a picture of where your oil plugs are.
First you drain out of the lower plug #53
Remove vent plug #45
Fill with new oil from the lower plug till oil runs out of #45 plug.

Most gear oil containers have a spout that you cut off with a knife and fit that spout into the lower plug hole, and squeeze the bottle till oil runs out the top plug.

You really need the Service Manual, dman. It is foolish for even an experienced boater to work on an outboard without one.

Good luck. :)
