changing motors....change prop also???

i had a merc 135 on my boat & at WOT it turned 5500 rpm with a 19p prop like it was suppose to. but now my question is i went down to a merc 115 with a 17p prop & its suppose to turn 5250 at WOT, would i need a 19p like was on the 135 also?

There are several versions of the Merc 115 so without knowing which one you have it's pretty hard to answer that. It appears that the 17 may have come with the 115, have you tried it yet? What rpm does it turn?

Please read the stickies at the top of the page.
If you have the 17 run it and get us the results.Wouldn't hurt to tell us what boat.size brand and type.

yes the 17 came with the motor & its a 91 merc 115 long shaft. i havent ran the motor yet, im still in the process of fixing whats left of my boat. the boat is a 89 glastron 180 futura but i was just kinda curious bout the prop didnt really expect to get a for sure answer til i could run it. thx guys

Dawg you are very lucky, the 19" pitch will work for light loads and high speed and the 17" pitch will work perfect for 3 people or more and pulling tubes or skis.An 18" pitch is the one that really belongs on it so you are on the top end and the bottom end.
