Changing oil seals on lower unit pre-alpha

I need to change the two oil seals on the prop shaft on the lower unit on my pre-alpha stern drive. Is it possible to change them without pulling the bearing carrier out of the lower unit housing? The bearing carrier retainer ring seems to be frozen in there and I may have to drill it out and replace it with a new retaining ring otherwise. Any help would be appreciated.

The installing tool fits inside where the prop shaft is.This sets the depth of the seals that ride on the shaft in the correct place. So i guess the answer to your question is ...no.

Thanks for the reply, that is what I thought. I may as well put a new bearing and o-ring well I am in there. :)
