I have a 89 Bayliner Capri Cuddy that has a 125 Force on it. I have the chance to install a 1974 Mercury Thunderbolt 850 on this boat.

My question: Will this 850 be big enough to move my boat?

Any Pointers?

well the 850 is 85hp so you will notice a difference it will move it though question is how long is the boat and how heavy -

Re: Changing Out Motor Question

If you have a Force 125 it is 1984 or newer and is a "prop rated" engine meaning it has 125hp at prop, the 1974 850 is "power head" rated so it is only about 75hp at prop. It will work if needed but will have to to propped low to plane out boat and still speed and skiing are going to suffer badly , I myself wouldnt put anthing less than 100hp on it(boat).
