I did some speed runs over the weekend with a newly reconditioned stock SST 13.25 x 17 prop and it looks like I'm getting about 21 -22 % slip at 5500 rpm. The anti-cavitation plate was even with the bottom, but there is a fair amount of spray. I tried raising the motor by one hole so that it is now about 3/4 of an inch above. I haven't had a chance to get back out to try this combo, but I'm reading that for older boats and motors the optimum position is EVEN with lowest point in the hull. The boat is an old PennYan Deep V 19'. Am I expecting too much out of this set up? The top speed was 36+ which isn't bad for only 90hp on a 19 footer, I'm really wondering if I should drop the motor back down. My only beef is the amount of spray around the motor, all other conditions are great. One other factor, is that I regularly run in 2 to 3 foot seas most days.
