Ok, I have only one question about this. I'm sure I did this right, but want to make sure somethign isn't weird here. I have the older Gen 1 Alpha from 1989, so it doesn't have a resevoir inside on the engine. When i drained my fluid, i let it sit for a couple hours, and got only a littl eover a quart out. I pumped new stuff in, and it came out the vent with just over a quart to fill (~1.25qt).

Now, I thought these took closer to 2 quarts of gear lube, unless the older one uses less. Am I missing something here?

I'm not sure what the exact volume should be, but my '88 Alpha 1 (Gen 1) takes a little under 1.5 quarts each time. 3 quarts is good for two years, with a small amount left over. I think it's more than 1.25 quarts though. Sorry I can't be more accurate (I just recycle the remaining oil).

That sounds about right.
My Alpha 1, Gen 2 with the Monitor/Reserve Bottle on the engine uses about 1.75 quarts total. But not even close to 2 quarts.
There is about 4 ounces in the bottle.
After a run or two recheck your drive lube level.
If you drained it thoroughly, there may have been a few places where some air was trapped.
The bubble will migrate to the top with operation and lower the lube level.
My Monitor/Reserve Bottle goes down a few onces in the first 10-20 hours after a lube change.

I have a 1990 Alpha 1 and I just changed the gear oil. I pumped in one full quart and then just got started good on the second quart and it was pumping out the vent hole. I was thinking 2 quarts as well but apparently it's just a little over 1 quart.

In cases like this its always best to simply read the owner's manual. Per mine....28 oz.
