Changing over to Synthetic oil

HELLO
would changing over to sierra synthetic lower unit gear oil be a good idea on my 1987 460 ford cobra drive ? a friend gave me a 5 gallen pail of it .I have always used omc lower unit oil .It holds 108 oz of oil and still running strong thanks jd

(I had one of those.....recently too)



Ok, well yes you would benefit from synthetic oil in the drive.

I didn't in mine but I do now in the Bravo I have in my Liberator. I just use the Mercury HP but a 5 gallon pail of it should last you a good long time!

The boat is a gradywhite gulfstreem, so when it goes i will re power Two boats ago i had a 87 four winns 235 sundowner with a 454 mag alpha 1 brought new with the 454 mag option . We put 600 hours on it before it was sold it. very nice boat it also had the molded fiberglass deck . I did like the mercruiser,I dream of 496 or a502 mag for the repower someday ps still caint post a photo

I would love to have a 502!

I cannot complain with the 454 though. I am still amazed at how this boat performs with the Bravo III.
