I went to take my boat on the lake today to see how it ran, it ran pretty well I went to go put it in gear and it didnt go. The handle was really really stiff, the boat was sitting for 2 years. I took the cable off the motor end and tryed to move it manually it wouldnt budge. Did it again then it snapped.

How hard is it to replace this cable? Would it be worth it to take it to the dealer to have it done?

Need help asap!

Sorry about that.

Its a Merc crusier 165 with a Alpha one out drive 4 cylinder.

Also its the lower cable, is that for the foward gear or reverse gear?

It's for all gears.

Your best bet is to go up to the adults only sticky (Second post in this forum) there is a HOW TO on how the shift interrupt system works and how that cable fits into the scheme of things.
Then, download the service manual for your outdrive. Assuming you engine and drive are newer than 83, you need manual #6 for your drive. Section 4A details how to replace the lower shift cable.

The upper cable is what tells the lower cable what to do. Like I said, read the how to so you understand

The Adults Only sticky is not a forum, it's another post. Look HERE.
