Changing Stringer Legs

I have an OMC stringer 2.5 with outdrive. Will an outdrive from a stringer 3.8 fit on my 2.5 setup? Are there any internal differences between the two outdrive?

Welcome aboard: please do not hijack other people's topics. If you've not done so already, please take some time and read the forum rules.

What years are the two drives? It's also about gear ratio, and I'm not sure what the ratios are in those. You may be able to mix and match upper and lower gear cases to make it work.

your trying to mix stringer 400 parts (4-cylinder) and stringer 800 parts (V6 and V8). think of it as trying to bolt pontiac starchief parts on a chevy vega. wont work.

What is wrong with the 2.5 drive?

It'll fit right on if both are same generation. but the gear ratio is wrong
