Changing Thermostat 160-->170: Draining entire system?

Hello,

I am running a Merc. 4.3MPI from 2005 (0W384629) with a closed cooling system installed. I'd like to change the thermostat from 160 (which I assume is being installed according to smartcraft values showing up) to a 170 Degrees Fahrenheit one. The boat is not being used in salt water. Do I need to drain the fresh water system entirely prior to changing the thermostat? Or, is there a walk around?

Thx, Christian

You only have to drain it down lower than the thermostat.

Hi Christian,

Your engine falls into a particular range, and I'm wondering. Do you have an oil leak from the front of the engine, down below the front pulley?

Thanks,

Chris.....
