If you change over to the bravo engine driven raw water pump and still using the alpha gen II leg, what do we do with the pump in the leg ? Can you still use the alpha leg to supply water to the new bravo pump or do you have to install the thru hull pick up. Whats the best way to go on this, please.

Re: changing to a bravo pump

Only Alpha boat I've ever seen with a Bravo pump had a transom "scoop" style pickup on it, same as I've seen on TRS powered boats. There was no pump in the Alpha lower unit, and I'm pretty sure the nipple inside the transom assembly where the line would normally go was capped or blocked off somehow. Details are fuzzy, but it definitely did not have a hose connection back there.

cap it inside and cut the hose in half outside. the water from the impeller ALSO cools the drive oil.

Why do you want to do this? If you don't have V8 engine with a Full closed cooling system, you shouldn't need to go to the Bravo pump.

I did what Bt Dr said about 25 years ago on a '73 302 with FWC. Still have the boat.

Don... that is why I am going to the bravo pump, I have a full closed cooling system and under heavy loads and the water temp up here in Alaska has been warmer this year, than in the past, I have been running 195 deg to 200 deg. With two or three people on the boat the temp stays at about 180 deg, but when I load it heavy and have to add a little more throttle to keep the same speed , the temp slowly climbs up. San juan engineering told me I may have to when I brought the system from them. I even brought a bravo pump at the time, but decided to stay with the alpha pump. I would like to see the temp stay down with all power settings.
