Ho hard is it to change a Volvo 260A fresh water cooling system to a closed system? Is this some thing that a novice shade tree mechanic (me) can do?

I Think you mean,....."How do you convert from Raw Water Cooling to Freshwater Cooling?"........
Freshwater Cooling Is a Closed System,.....

Anyways,....................

Ayuh,......
It Can be done,.... FreebeTony did it to his old I6 awhile ago.......

The 1st thing you're going to Need is a Factory Service Manual for your Engine/Driveline.........

Most times,.. The Damage has Already been Done,+ There's No Reasons to Justify the Effort,.. Or the Expence........
If you're doing a repower,+ getting New Manifolds to go with it,.... Then it's Justifiable........
If your engine has Time on it,.... The Salt is already there,+ There's No Amount of Flushing is going to Clean it...................

Good Luck,.......

The plumbing route will be altered,+ a Heat Exchanger is Added,.......

You can either scavange the Volvo parts,......
Or,... There are several after-market systems available..............

What I can get is a brand new system from a local marina for 450.00 bucks. I already have to get new risers and manifolds.(which I didnt know)
So every thing comes to around 900 bucks.
From what I have found on the NET, I guess these prices arent to bad.
Thnx for the help.

Re: Changing to a closed system

If you can get a Large Enough Heat Exchanger,... You'll be able to include the Manifolds into the Freshwater side,...This is how My latest is going to be,........

But,..... You'll Still need to Replace the Risers every 3 or 4 years,....They'll still be on the Raw Water side,... No changing That.....
