just have recently purchased a 1986 vro 70 hp evinrude having fuel pump problems so was told to get a pump #438557 to replace original fuel pump. On this new pump there is 3 connections inlet ,outlet and ? . Is this third connection for the vacuum nipple behind the third carb on the crank case? new to this stuff but feel I can fix it myself financially. Also is that just a nipple or is it a reed valve only supposed to be able to blow one way? I noticed a plate in it but can't seem to find any info in manual. Need to get this fixed before next weekend for 4th with kids. The mod # on this motor is E70ELCD and is this a possible swap?

Check Engine FAQs, slinger. Good advice there.

You are correct the third connection is for the pulse to drive the pump diaphram. I'm not sure exactly where the port is on the 3cyl. motors, but it sounds to me like you may have located it. If there was a hose going to the vro pump from the point you described, that should be the right place to connect the pulse line.

Hey guys, appreciate the info. JB you are correct there is some very valuable info on the VRO. But I think for the cost of the fuel pump and the ease of mixing I will continue with the swap to non VRO. We have lots of kids so funds are tight.McGR i thought thats what the port was for but wanted some more input don't want to mess things up, new at marine stuff. But learning quickly. Thanks again. Oh and this is a correct swap?
