Re: changing water pump
Agree. Get a kit, don't replace the whole thing per se. I feel sure that this is what ENSIGN meant. The kit has the impeller but also other gaskets, seals and may include another cover.
Be sure and pay attention to how things come out, the direction that the blades of the impeller are bent back and the copper water discharge tube as it is mounted in the top of the water pump and also the hole in the bottom of the power head where it inserts. When you go back together be sure and get it in the hole. Also o-rings and things on the crankshaft.
Also, put your shifter in R (carefully, don't force it without the engine running....twist the prop to get it to go in gear) before you split and don't turn the shift shaft while dismantled. This way when you go to reinstall it, you can rock the prop back and forth and it will move the driveshaft assisting in getting that spline and the spline on the bottom of your crankshaft to line up and engage. Remember, watch the water outlet tube and get her in the hole.
