Charging 2 12v batteries with one charger

Is it possible to use one battery charger to charge two 12v batteries that are wired in series (+ to -) without damaging the batteries? I realize that it may take longer to charge. Thanks.

Connect the charger to only one battery's [+] and [-]. After the battery is charged, move the charger to the next battery.<br /><br />DO NOT connect the charger's [+] to a battery and the charger's [-] to a different battery because the charger is pushing out with only 12v and the batteries in series will be pushing back with 24v.<br /><br />Even better, get a 24v charger! Then you can charge both batteries at once, the same way they were discharged. This is the preferred method of charging a 24v system.<br /><br />Your question is being discussed in another thread. As the above guy's have said....two 12V batts in series is 24V....can't charge that combo at one time with a 12V charger....not a matter of time...can't be done. Charge each battery individually.

Ice king you can charge them at the same time, but not as a 24 volt system. You can connect them parallel, + to + &- to -. That way it's a 12 volt system still. I know it will charge them both, but not sure how it will affect the batteries in the long run. I would venture to say that it'd be better if they were close to the same charge level when you started, but it might not matter. Someone else on here would know better than I I'm sure.
