1998 225 Evinrude

I have a Link 20 battery gauge installed and Battery 2 is only charging at 2.5 amps at 4000 RPM. When I switched to battery 1, the voltage was way down to 11.4 but the recharge rate at 4000 RPM was actually discharging at(-) 1.4. I thought both numbers should be way up at cruising speed. Any suggestions?

I assume the output from the engine is regulated therefore a charge rate of 2.5 amps would be reasonable if the battery is nearly charged.

Clearly a problem with battery 1. 11 .4 volts is far lower than it should ever be discharged. It is probably knackered, it will be if its left in that state for long!

I think you should check that the battery monitor is correctly wired to battery 1.

I think you should check the charging circuit for battery 1.

If the battery monitor is correct it suggests you have a drain of 1.4 amps and no charging.
