Charging problem 92 Johnson120 ?

I checked the voltage on my battery today while running and not running and the funny thing was that the readings were nearly identicle (11.9VDC). Afterwards I ran the boat for a 40 min. idle and about a 20 min. mid to full throttle ride. The two batterys still had nearly the same voltage. Should I be worried or does this sound normal.

Many outboards were produced without any charging circuit at all, as strange as that sounds.<br />But I think all '92 engines have them.<br />You may have a bad regulator, or gauge. Try a volt meter right on the battery posts.<br />One word od caution; never operate this engine without a battery hooked-up, or it will fry the sensative swichbox,regulator,stator, or other 'spensive stuff.<br />Another problem could be the batteries themselves, not being capable of acepting a charge (slim posability they would both be bad).

Thanks for the advice. To tell you the truth they just might both be bad. This boat just sat for two years unused and I trickeled them to get them going. So far they have started the boat many times but I wonder if they could damage the electronics of the motor. Robby

It is a reguator 9 amp system, should make about 14.5 volts at about 4500 rpms with a good battery.

I think it will need to turn some RPMs before it shows much charge rate.
